The City Council voted two weeks ago to raise wastewater (sewer) rates by 88% ... and they are making plans for additional utility rate hikes for water and solid waste (garbage collection) sometime after March.
The wastewater increases alone will phase in an additional $326 per year for a typical household. If all the rate increases are adopted, a typical household will ultimately endure an increase of $750 per year.
Since the City Council made their ill-advised decision, our email box has been flooded with angry responses. Some of you want to help put a measure on the ballot so that we can vote down these increases. Others want us to recall City Councilmembers from office.
Many have answered our call to become part of a small army of grassroots volunteers dedicated to collecting the thousands of signatures we need in neighborhoods and shopping centers.
I have some good news.
We are ready to file paperwork with the City Clerk to start the signature gathering process. We just need 20 more volunteers.
